In politics, there are generally two dominant sides of the political equation: left vs. right. In order to better understand these opposing factions, it would be instructive to define some of the objectives for each side.  We can accomplish this by dividing the goals each group envisions for America into two separate lists:

LEFT:

  • A financially more equal America
  • A politically more democratic America
  • An ethnically diverse America
  • A religiously independent America
  • A morally less judgmental America
  • A more safety conscious America
  • A physically fit America
  • A smoke free America
  • An oil independent America
  • An environmentally friendly America
  • A collectively more cooperative America
  • An intellectually progressive America
  • A more globally competitive America
  • A less violent America
  • An internationally more diplomatic America
  • A post racial America
  • A gender neutral America
  • A less childish America
  • A more “neighborly” America
  • An economically greener America
  • A culturally tolerant America
  • A more empathetic America
  • A more energy efficient America
  • A more unionized America
  • A fairer America
  • A more educated America
  • A less divisive America
  • A politically correct America
  • A less obese America
  • A more enlightened America

RIGHT:

  • A free America
